Atli Thorarensen joined Cellarity in September 2021 where he serves as Chief Scientific Officer. Atli is a medicinal chemist with 25 years’ experience in the discovery of small molecular clinical candidates for a range of therapeutic areas such as inflammation, immunology, allergy,  respiratory, cardiovascular, pain and antibacterials.

Prior to joining Cellarity, Atli was a research fellow at Pfizer as a member of the inflammation and immunology/rare disease research unit chemistry leadership team. 

Atli is a drug hunter and has delivered multiple projects from early portfolio entry into clinical candidate nomination, including the recently FDA approved JAK3 inhibitor PF-06651600 for Alopecia (Litfulo), and the CCR6 antagonist PF-07054894 for inflammatory bowel disease. 

Atli earned his PhD in organic chemistry at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign followed by a postdoctoral work at the University of Uppsala. He has an extensive publication (55) & patent (30) list covering a range of topics in drug discovery including lead generation, structure optimization, chemical biology, biology (especially enzymology), computational chemistry, ADME and toxicology.
